How the Covid-19 Pandemic Certifies Nursing as a Highly Ranked and Ethical Profession

The Covid-19 pandemic has not only caused turmoil on individual lives but has also caused catastrophic changes on the world’s economy and destroyed numerous industries. Through the madness, the only group of individuals who did not fail to meet the expectation were perhaps nurses. As a profession, nursing was always known to be reputable; however, the effort, grace, and willingness put forth by nurses in handling the horrific events throughout the pandemic took the profession to higher ranks. According to U.S News and World Report, being a nurse practitioner is ranked as the third overall “Best Job in America” for the calendar year 2021. The report also discloses that nursing jobs are expected to grow by 52.4% along with an unemployment rate of 1.2%, which ranks far below the nation’s national unemployment average that currently sits at 6.3 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics

Before jumping to exactly why a Registered Nurse (RN) is a good samaritan profession, let’s assess the impact of the pandemic and how nurses battled the disease on the frontlines. Covid-19 is considered to be one of the worst illnesses within the past century; during an interview with CNN, Dr. Anthony Fauci addressed the disease as his “worst nightmare”, similar to Ebola and HIV, to give context to how badly it can affect the lives of human beings. Today, the disease still poses a threat to people’s lives and presents an immediate danger to the functioning of communities across the United States and the rest of the world. Job loss; change in the mode of education; remote work; social distancing; adjustment in public transportation; restaurant and bar closures, amongst a list of many other things are impacts caused by Covid-19.
