Entrance and Admission Requirements and Procedures.

Substance and Alcohol Abuse Counseling Program

Prospective students are first interviewed by the director or his/her designee to determine their interest and applicability of the academic program for the prospective student.

  1. Applicants will complete and submit the application/enrollment agreement with the $150 application fee to the director of the college or his/her representative.
  2. Applicants   will   be   subject   to   the   following   regulations   concerning   educational qualifications related to their ability to benefit from the training provided by the college:
  • All applicants must be at least 17 years, 8 months of age.
  • All applicants must be physically able to perform the duties for which they are training.
  • Have a High School Diploma or GED (for this school’s admissions purposes only; each of the Florida Certification Board (FCB)’s certification levels requires a different level of education/training). Applicants who wish to pursue certifications must meet the general requirements set forth by the FCB.  Please visit their website for more details.
  • All students under the age of 18, including those who have already graduated, must have guardian or parental signature on the Enrollment Agreement.
    1. Applicants  will  be  notified  of  their  admission  status  when  completed  application materials have been received.
    2. Applicants accepted into the training programs at the college will be allowed to begin classes on the next available entrance cycle.

Special Admission Requirements or Limitations:  A criminal record may keep a student from obtaining a license or certification in some allied health programs. A criminal record may affect a student’s ability to gain employment in the field of training. Certifications are not a credentialing requirement for this program. However, applicants who wish to apply for the Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) certification must pass a criminal background check and meet all the other applicable requirements set forth by the Florida Certification Board (FCB). Although a Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) certification, a higher level than CAC, can be beneficial, it is not a credentialing requirement for this program. Those who wish to seek that certification level must have (among other things) at least a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Given that this program is an Associate Degree, and since the Certified Addiction Professional certification level requires at least a bachelor’s degree or higher, our graduates would not qualify for the CAP. The Standards and Requirements Tables from the FCB website provide all the required details. Students in the health care profession must have the ability to support patients’ needs that include but not limited to: transferring, lifting, physical comfort and safety, personal patient care and patient care procedures.

Hajgden International College is not accredited by either the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) or the National Addiction Studies Accreditation Commission (NASAC). CACREP and NASAC are the only two (2) accrediting agencies recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDOE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) for higher education addiction and counseling studies programs.  CACREP only grants accreditation approvals for Master’s and Doctoral Degree level counseling programs; it does not approve lower-level programs such as Bachelor’s and Associate degrees. NASAC is currently the only USDOE and the CHEA recognized accrediting agency that accredits education addiction studies programs from the Certificate, Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degree levels. The college is currently not an approved training provider with the Florida Certification Board (FCB). FCB is the entity that grants certifications to qualified applicants who wish to be certified in the human services professions (such as counseling, drug and alcohol addiction, and others) in Florida. FCB does not accept academic credentials or hours earned from schools that are not recognized by the USDOE and CHEA. After completing this program, I will not be eligible to sit for the Florida Certification Board (FCB) examinations with my credentials. Without successfully passing the Certified Addiction Counseling (CAC) examination or higher under the FCB, I will not be able to obtain licensure by the Florida Certification Board (FCB) and practice in this state.
